Team Mexico

For the third time, Mexico will compete in the World University Championship of American Football of the FISU, this time in the city of Harbin, China and where they will seek to endorse the two world championships that they hold in the 2014 and 2016 editions.

It will be under the direction of the head coach Horacio García Aponte, that the Mexican team seeks to maintain its hegemony in this international university event, where they maintain an undefeated record of 8 wins with 392 points in favor by only 16 points against. Coach Garcia has managed to combine in all three editions a team made up of the best athletes-students in the country.

These teams have had the participation of the best athletes from the most important institutions in the country, such as Monterrey Tech, the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), the Universidad de las Americas Puebla (UDLAP), the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo León (UANL), the Universidad Anahuac (UAMN), the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua (UACH), the Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN), the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), the Universidad de Sonora (UNISON), the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC) and CETYS Universidad among others.

In the first edition in Uppsala, Sweden; the Mexican National Team passed over their rivals:

62-0 to Sweden, 53-0 to Finland, 55-0 to China and in the championship game 14-6 to Japan, being the most valuable players: Alejandro Garcia # 12 QB and Mauricio Salazar # 55 LB to the offensive and defensive respectively.

For the second edition in Monterrey, Mexico; the Mexican national team passed over their rivals: 74-0 to China, 63-0 to Guatemala, 36-3 to Japan and in the championship game 35-7 to the United States, being the most valuable player on offense Fernando Mejia # 28 RB.

For the third edition, the head coach Horacio García has formed a staff with extensive experience, with elements with previous participation in this type of events, together with a team conformed of the elements of the two most important university leagues in the country and with elements that will be demonstrating the high level of sport that is played in the country. It should be noted that 19 roster players have previous experience in this event and of these, 4 will go for their third world university championship: Maximo González DL, Pedro Magallanes WR, Rodrigo Arias WR and Carlos Mercado OL. The selection presents a base with 11 elements of the national champions Borregos Toluca, 10 of the UNAM the national runners-up, as well as 11 players of the Borregos Monterrey, 10 of the UANL Tigers, and 9 of the Aztecs of the UDLAP, mainly. Those 5 teams have dominated the country's American football in recent years. A total of 18 universities are represented in this team.

The national team will get together from June 2 to 9 at the facilities of Monterrey Tech in

Toluca, the coaching staff - which presents coaches from 7 different institutions such as Tec Toluca, Tec de Monterrey, Tec Puebla, the IPN, the UABC and the State of Mexico Tec, will evaluate all the players initially summoned, from where the final roster of the 60 athletes-students who will travel to Harbin in China to look for the three-peat and continue maintaining the name of Mexico on high.
